It’s healthy to address and speak against the negative implications inventions can bring. For AI, it has an undeniable environmental impact as well as enabling the theft of intellectual property and unethical deepfake-type gen imagery. To ignore this because it upsets fans of it is ridiculous.
I think there are extremely important uses of AI that many of you do not personally know about and that’s why you don’t understand the valuable and important implications of AI. Yeah it’s dumb for artistic fields, but it’s extremely useful in mathematic and scientific applications because some of the work we do is borderline impossible for humans to do by hand or just takes years of work when AI is able to make a week or less turnaround for us
Sorry but as soon as I bring up the biomedical, the astrophysics, the cellular and molecular applications everyone is quiet because they have no idea what those applications do for those fields. All you see is ChatGBT and those sites that make you AI art and assume that’s it. Hate to break it to you but there’s actual uses of it that are extremely important to helping people in all kinds of realms, particularly in biomedical engineering to help fight and cure all kinds of rare diseases
I am not against AI as a whole. It’s been used in many fields for decades, including artistically (interpolation software, for example). The problem is generative AI. It serves no functional purpose other than to be a glorified search bar or an a IP stealing toy. What kind of AI applications are you talking about here, because if you’re talking Gen AI, I can’t wait to here what kind of nonsense research that’d be used for lol
I’m referring to Alphafold, Rosetta, Autodock, and so so many more just like it. These are just the ones I personally use regularly and they’re essentially to engineering an enzyme that could facilitate cell death in cancerous cells, which I personally think is quite important
