A lot of it is a result of the way social media algorithms are designed. Anger = engagement = revenue. But I think the main driver is that we’re living in a declining empire. As both living standards and America’s global standing deteriorate, elite factions start blaming each other for the country’s problems, and the rest of the population follows suit
