The most confusing thing about talking to transphobes is rejecting my explanation of how I was suicidal before I accepted my gender identity, and now I’m perfectly happy. It’s not a hard concept but people refuse to accept it.I think it’s because people think the suicide rate for trans people is because they’re trans, not because of the lack of acceptance and bullying that comes with being trans, and feeling like you’d rather die than be forced to live as someone you’re not. I guess it doesn’t fit into their ‘mentally ill’ narrative though, so when met with someone like me they’ll bend over backwards to try to explain the inverse correlation between my suicidal thoughts and my acceptance of my trans identity lmaooo
So what part of “I was suicidal before i accepted being trans” is lost on you? Because if someone starves themself they’ll die, but if I don’t present the way I want, I’ll probably end up suicidal again (i.e. die). So like there’s a very different treatments for anorexia and gender dysphoria.
