Unfortunately, I concur with this. We need to be proud of the flag of our nation. We need to be proud of our country. But in order to do so we need to transform this nation into one that we can be proud of without feeling guilty of that

This might be odd coming from me but a part of me always wants to be patriotic. It’s just really hard to justify that feeling

Fuck that old ass dude, he grew up in a different America. I’m proud of lots of things my country has done but we’re doing horrible things right now and I’m not proud of the effect we’re having on the globe. Residents of Gaza used to see our flag in two places: on usaid products and shrapnel from our weapons; now it’s only the latter. Writ large I’m proud of my country but that doesn’t mean I can’t be ashamed of it today. Blind, unwavering patriotism is an insult to what we stand for

That’s okay. Me too. It’s hard to put into words how o feel about this country. I’m proud to say I’m an American, but it also hurts that I can’t justify the harms we’ve done, or defend our failings. I can’t say we’ve done much right, but I still believe in our ideals and beliefs that I’ve been taught since I was a kid

You’re a blind, sad fool. You are not a patriot, you’re a self centered regressive. You don’t love your country, you love your own interests
