I think it’s interesting how people always go to the “we need it for historical purposes” argument when it’s a Confederate monument but not like plantations or slave markets. The Germans kept the concentration camps up but not the Nazi flags
All of this to say that I’d buy that argument way more if it we were protecting places where people suffered as a reminder of the cruelty rather than the statues of people who fought for that to continue
