I hate how all the adults in my life keep telling me I need to learn to drive, don’t I want the freedom, I can’t depend on family/friends to drive me places forever, etc. Okay, you keep paying for gas and repairs, I’ll keep spending my 60¢ per bus ride

If you live in a dense city with functional public transit, I find having a car is generally way more annoying for getting around anywhere within the city (good luck finding parking) and renting a parking spot alone usually costs way more than it’d actually be worth to me

Hey, good for your area for having reliable public transit. Wish I had this privilege lmao

Depends on where you live, definitely for many areas you are being a burden if you are being driven around But for a few metro areas that’s just a viable method. Bicycling is also a w too

If someone has to occasionally drive you it may be getting annoying for them but it’s a free country if you want to take the bus everywhere then take the bus its your choice

Yeah fr none of my friends who live in San Francisco Seattle Chicago or New York have cars, they use turo for when they need to leave the city to go hiking or touch some nature

Like in the occasion where I REALLY need a car, Uber exists. I can afford like a couple hundred bucks worth of Uber a month before a car even starts to make sense

I guess in this case you still need a license and to drive

Yeah true I’ve used zipcar and stuff too and it’s handy. A lot of times they reek of weed/cigarettes though in my experience lmao

Yeah most of the people saying this to me have little to no experience with public transit and all of them have depended on driving a car their entire life, so they don’t understand how convenient and useful a good bus system can be

I live on a college campus that has a lot of green space, so I don’t even have to leave the city to touch grass and hang with the critters

Artificially manicured green spaces in urban areas are not substitutes for nature, try to get a ride with someone to a preserve or state park outside the city. Even in a car centric wasteland like Houston where I’m from there are marshes and wetland preserves where you can experience actual nature.
