Rare heritage foundation W But this obv isn’t to protect children, it’s to track social media use and prevent it from being anonymous so acc an L social media should be banned for people under 16 tho, it’s this generation’s cigarettes

Like with pornhub, people didn’t stop watching porn in the states that it’s banned (including minors), they just went to more virus-ridden sites instead

Hey id10t tell me how protecting children is a bad thing. The only reason you would be against this is if you actually were pro harming children which your side absolutely is.

Because it has nothing to do with protecting children and everything to do with mass surveillance and making sure they can track everything you say or do directly back to you personally

That’s literally not even close to true and if you honestly think that is then you shouldn’t be speaking on anything

So how does this protect kids? Asking as a genuine question

Using social media 3 or more hours a day doubles the rates of depression and anxiety in teenagers Nearly 50% of teens who used social media reported self-esteem issues or issues with the way they looked Not to mention how children can be preyed upon by predators

Agreed, less social media usage is a good thing, not debating that part. But how does “age verification” actually do anything? Most people lie about their age online anyways, and for sites that require posting your ID people usually just go to more unstable sites for their fix

Hmm oh idk how does verifying age and making sure underage persons can’t access more graphic content not protect them 💀

Did you read what I wrote dawg? Age verification doesn’t actually work, people will just go to another site without it and use that instead

it’s not about eliminating it entirely bc there will always be loopholes but 9 year old kids aren’t gonna figure out the loopholes

I’d say a portion would get stumped, agreed. Most kids though these days (I’m stretching the timeline from like middle-late Gen Z to early-middle Gen Alpha) are more internet savvy than not, they could def figure out some loopholes especially if they’re put onto the internet at a younger age (9 would be pushing it, agreed, but 10 and up I’d think would figure it out)

Parents just aren’t good at policing their children, which is honestly what SHOULD be happening in this day and age but they don’t, so here we are

Does it entirely work? No but will it stop some yes

But it doesn’t work ENOUGH to make it reasonable, not with the amount of surveillance that’s attached to bills like these that are CLEARLY not about “protecting minors”

I would say some protection is better than nothing 💀

And it obviously is about protecting minors

The problem is if you set everyone’s account to minor by default, how long’s it gonna take preds to realize that if they don’t verify they’re going to be put into spaces designed for children

There is obviously gonna be issues with every bill, but that doesn’t mean the core principle of protecting children isn’t a good thing
