Question? If you voted for Trump, do you believe that children with special needs/IEPs deserve equal access to education? If you do believe that then how do you support president Trump?

These are the eligibility characteristics under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), the current framework for teaching students with disabilities, from here https://www.parentcenterhub.org/categories/

These exist on such a broad spectrum. I mean autism can be Elon musk or rain man. I think it really matters if this person can possibly be a functioning member of society. If not why bother? Obviously a deaf person can easily work in our society and would benefit from education but when you get down to it why waste space on people that need to be institutionalized

Wait, so, if they aren’t of value to you they don’t deserve to have an education?

The fundamental principle of IDEA is that everyone is guaranteed an education, do you not think that’s a good thing?

Would a teachers resources better be used teaches 50 kids where 25 of them are so disabled they cannot understand very simple concepts or a classroom of 25 kids where they are disabled enough to not be in a normal class but still able enough to be able to function?

You do realize that apart of education is also teaching those with learning disabilities life skills and how to live on their own? Programs like the special Olympics teach job skills. Even behavioral regulation. Thats also why people go to school specifically to be able teach in Special Education classrooms.

We have teachers specifically for special ed. They have specialty training and degrees. No teachers are being taken away from other students. Every person deserves an education that meets them on their level

Actually controversial opinion here, I’d even argue the reason many teachers are leaving the industry cause no the shortage (making overall quality education accessibility bullshit right now) is because children who need to be in special ed and receiving that extra care aren’t, because parents are so misinformed and scared of special ed and flexible learning systems and promote stuff like you’re spewing

I’m in education to be a teacher and I 100% agree with this. I am frankly scared of the responsibility I will have as a teacher for students’ learning and the thought that I might not have the resources I need with that is even more terrifying

I have nothing against mainstreaming special ed students, because many are suited for it when given support, but so many school districts and admin refuse to pay for that support, pay for the staffing for that support, and are mainstreaming kids who really really shouldn’t be. Parents are in denial of their child’s needs, admin are scared to piss them off, and now you have 35 kids in one class with 16 IEPs that need to be honored without giving the teacher a single tool to honor the IEP.

And some twit decides the solution is to just…not give those kids an education at all because they won’t be able to walk into any tech bro company and get a job. What a fuckin joke man
