its not a misrepresentation its drawing a comparison between two things that are similar to some respect with the rates of occurrences. to say abstinence is the only form of effective birth control and say no sex bc nothing else is 100% is indeed like saying you should only walk because cars or trains or buses or planes have fatality rates while walking doesnt
Lawmakers who have placed a stricter ban on abortions in some states have a ‘heartbeat’ law, where as long as a heartbeat is detected doctors aren’t allowed to perform an abortion. This has led to a number of cases where women in septic shock nearly lost their lives because their fetus’s heart was still beating. I think this is a matter of lawmakers being misinformed about abortions and not really what pro life people mean, but it’s where their movement has currently ended up regardless so idk.
Imagine how much less unwanted pregnancies there would be if everyone was having protected sex and access to birth control vs just preaching abstinence unless you want a kid and once you have kids to never have sex again (a LOT of abortions are also from couples who already have children and are married)
I personally agree with the structured trimester law that the supreme court threw out when they overturned Roe v Wade (where it was determined voluntary abortions were acceptable in the first trimester, special circumstance in the second and only if the mothers life was in danger in the third). But now it’s complicated again for some reason.
like people WILL have sex, if they know what sex is or if theyve never heard of it, because thats literally how reproduction works for every species (that doesnt do mitosis) preaching abstinence and then shutting out everything else has a zero percent chance of working to prevent unwanted or unplanned pregnancies
Wdym, you’re making a risk vs reward argument. Your argument relies on the fact that every time you choose have sex you accept the risk of conceiving a child. The other person’s argument relies on the fact that every time you get in your car you accept the risks of getting in to an accident. The arguments are the same……
So what you’re telling me to do and not do is contradicting. If I told you how to drive or if I told you should not drive at all untill you can buy a car full out, wouldn’t it make sense that me telling you not to drive, that I should know how to drive as well? It wouldn’t make sense if I told you not to or that you shouldn’t at all just because I’m waiting to get my license when I’m able to pay off a car without a loan then I’ll learn to drive
