No we do not cuz at the end of the day teachers teach what they want to and if all but one of my history teachers have been Reagan-worshipping republicans, then I’m never going to have heard the full story

Crazy to say all Americans have the same view on communism. Wonder what your view is.

The way that in American culture communism is instantly treated as a “bad word” anywhere outside of an academic setting, or the way it’s used to demonize candidates for their capitalist policies not being capitalist enough.

As someone in college courses that look deeply into different forms of governments i completely disagree. The main ideology of communism makes sense but just doesn’t work.

My view is that it’s a system of governance and is not inherently good or evil, like any system it can be corrupted by bad actors. It has benefits such as increased social security and centralized production, but major drawbacks in terms of class mobility, etc. My point is that the red scare has had a long lasting impact and leads to people discounting and boiling down complex topics to “good or bad.”

Yes - in terms of US history we are made to see communism as something “bad” but that’s not directly taught or pressed upon students. I just disagree with your statement of communism being treated as a “bad word” in America.

It hasn’t worked, but can you name a country that failed without foreign influence? The U.S. launched operations in developing countries just because of rumors that the candidate was friendly with communist countries. Additionally a country can’t operate under a truly communist government because of trade with capitalist nations.

That’s fair, and highly dependent on where you grew up in the U.S. In the Midwest, “what are you a communist” is heard multiple times a day.

Not all of them, but I am aware that the U.S. has some of the most conservative “liberals” in the world. Our politics are all kinds of fucked up, and it has spread to other countries since 2016 just look at Boris Johnson. The U.S. also has a wave of anti-intellectualism going on right now. Any public academic conversation regarding communism emphasizes its failures while failing to dive into the impact of foreign intervention and global sanctions.

Communism literally had no successes though. If it was a good system it would have been able to resist foreign intervention and sanctions.

That’s like saying I refused to sell you insurance then set your house on fire, but you should be able to eat it and just buy another house with little to no aid.

You probably just surround yourself with left wing people. The Poles went so far as to ban communist symbols for a while.
