18 downvotes is crazy work. I’m saying that many people probably said “the fact that <country> yet lives is thanks to you” was probably said plenty of times in non-Nazi contexts. Imagine how many times people said that to leaders of independence movements, like in India and Haiti

In the case of a president of an already established stable country with no external threats this is definitely an extremely authoritarian statement. Also all of those countries had large independence movements with many different groups working together. India for example was led by a very diverse group of people from communists to imperial Japan collaborators to islamists to republicans
