I feel like you can recognize the leader and general that Lee was, without essentially deifying him. Should we remember his contribution to history, switching sides from the Union to confederacy before breakout of war and how that decision prolonged the war, yes. Should we see him as a great man for siding with the morally corrupt system of keeping slavery just because it was a “state issue”, hell no. Two things can be true at once.
