I don’t understand voting for a third party. Like, explain it to me, because I feel like it’s just a wasted vote. Like, we haven’t had a third party win an election in decades.

We have two third parties that really matter in America, each of which is closer to one of the big parties than it is to the middle. It’s a protest vote. It sends a message to the party you would’ve voted for that they need to get their shit together. It usually doesn’t work, because the major parties then just blame third party voters instead of reflecting, but that’s the point.

why do Democrats vote in deep red states?

Third parties actually do perform reasonably well in non-presidential races. A Libertarian Party candidate won over 30% of Arkansas’s Senate vote in 2020. It’s worth voting third party in local and state elections.

Probably because they don’t like either democrat or republican candidates

you don't understand it because there's nothing to understand, it's burning a vote

You can flip a state, and Democrats have won many elections. Hello, we just had a Joe Biden before Trump.

Yeah but they can’t flip Mississippi so why do they even vote, knowing they’re not gonna win?

Again, you can flip a state if many, many people are fed up with what’s happening, or people come to their senses. You can flip a state, and you forget that most people end up moving to those states, so that also plays a part.

Green = “I would vote Democrat, but…” Libertarian = “I would vote Republican, but…”

I am not the person to lecture about strategically voting blue in North Carolina lmao. The only reason I voted for Kamala Harris was because I lived there in 2024 and it was a swing state, I don’t live there anymore and now I live in a blue state that’s not gonna flip red anytime soon so I actually could protest vote if I wanted to.

and third parties can win elections. the likelihoods of third parties winning elections is about as high as the likelihoods of Democrats flipping South Carolina. though i’m not sure how y’all plan to flip states y’all hardly run in

and in places where Republicans run uncontested, third parties are able to carve out substantial gains. the Carolina Workers party was founded in 2023, and carved out a 20% vote share in a state representative election with minimal resources and no campaign. local elections and the midterms are where third parties are most viable
