Because Hitler was deliberately evil and led to a war that killed people from across the globe, while Mao was just stupid and mainly killed people in one country whose social media is controlled. So you’re going to see a lot more Hitler hate
Why does Hitler get more hate than Mao Zedong genuine question

Tbh I’m surprised Leopold II of Belgium doesn’t get more hate.

Leopold II might have killed more civilians than Hitler, but Hitler started a war that killed way more soldiers than that. And again, Hitler’s actions actually affected the country that you were educated in. You would see more Mao hate if you were in China, and more Leopold II hate if you were in the DRC. But the west is focused on the west

Yes but most of the death he caused was from his misguided policies. He was still evil, but he deliberately killed fewer people than Hitler

He’s evil, but on a smaller scale than the famous evil guys. And the country he oppressed barely has the internet

He died before WWI and he might’ve killed more people than Hitler, depending on what estimate you believe.

I was actually gonna add an asterisk that my point only works if you separate civilian and military casualties.

No matter how evil someone is, they’re not going to become more hated than Hitler by oppressing a single third world country. I would bet that most Americans don’t know who Leopold is

I mean part of that might have to do with the American education system lmao.

Honestly, I don’t think a high school could get away with conveying how bad Leopold II was. They would give the not so graphic version, and then he would sound like a below average colonial ruler
