Is that really necessary? Respecting others doesn’t mean giving them time of day, being friends, agreeing, or even understanding them. Respecting them is showing them human decency. Treating them as a person. Acknowledging they have feelings and value.

respect has the dual meaning of showing either human decency, or admiration/deference. often this ambiguity is used to accuse people of “disrespect” when they don’t show deference. I think it’s a fair question
