It’s actually how it ends. Multiple people have confirmed it. Now the message is no longer “family means nobody gets left behind”, it’s “you should leave your family behind to seek out what’s good for yourself”, fucking mental rewrite

UUUGGGH I read more and [spoilers] she’s left with David’s grandma, they change the main message to basically go against cultural traditions you don’t like (instead of Nani wanting lilo bc she’s the only one who understands her and loves her so much she’ll sacrifice her wants to keep lilo safe, she only wants lilo bs she feels it’s her “kuleana” or duty to have her, and David’s grandma teaches her to essentially her duty is to always put herself first)

So they took a film that highlights the beauty of Hawaiian culture and make it a critique of Hawaiian culture all under a white director who would have no attachment or understanding of the culture. Brilliant!

Like to be fair the original had a white director as well but it actually took the time to respect and appreciate the culture while making jabs at tourist colonialism, something modern Disney would never have the balls to do. Also, guess what? It just broke box office records, biggest Memorial Day weekend opening ever! I want to die.

I wonder if it will keep the hype since the end has been spoiled and Twitter is very upset. Parents taking their kids is always a good money maker but I feel a lot of people going to see lilo and stitch are childless adults who were big fans of the original

I doubt it. Apparently, Lilo and Stitch raked in around 2 billion for Disney last year on merch sales alone. It’s gonna make a fucktillion and be one of the highest grossing movies ever, calling it now

Good chunk of that merch is me. I got a lot 😅 was gonna go in my stitch suit with stitch slides and a stitch blanket. Now I’m canceling my ticket. I’m not paying money to be mad 😂
