Why are Texans so against an income tax? It’s like the most basic form of taxation that nearly every state has, is there any reason for opposition other than “it’s always been like this?”

Wealthy Texans can avoid having to pay it. Stuff like tolls (which Texas have a lot of) are a straight set fee which everyone has to pay.

what 1 said and also everyone hates income tax even if they agree with it bc they see it take a chunk out of every paycheck so it’s an easy touchstone for motivating voters

We’re taxed here in other ways other states aren’t, in the end it’s all the same

Most of Texas’s tax system is regressive, meaning poorer people pay a larger proportion of their income.
