Quick guide to discourse: • it’s about the topic, not the person, so saying “oh you’re a-“ is not helpful. • don’t say “you are saying…” instead ask “are you saying…” to let them correct misunderstanding or affirm that’s what they are sayingAlso reframe things in language that their party identifies with better. When talking about how the national parks are being desecrated, don’t mention the environment or climate change since they’ll write it off as woke hogwash or something. Instead, mention how our land is sacred and divine and that it’s a big part of America’s identity and culture.
ugh yessss! i’m so glad to see some ppl out there are realizing the same. this is genuinely our best chance at revolution, not only does this make them actually listen to you, it breaks us out of this binary we’ve rot ourselves in. like the charlie kirk thing was so interesting to me cause i saw a ton of conservatives policing speech and being against dark humor… i was like hello?
The thing I find difficult is finding a way to use their language while also not contradicting the Glorious Leader’s Ultimate (totally not lies) Truths. Explaining that tariffs make things more expensive and are a tax SHOULD be so easy since that’s the opposite of what they want. However, Glorious Leader says it cures America so you can’t really tell them that it’s a bottle of snake oil
the truth is that the tariffs are intended to be bargaining tactics, negotiation leverages. its like a game of chicken, trump is gambling with american lives, knowingly making our economy worse, so that he can use them for better trade deals (or rather to boast about how he’s got the “art of the deal” snd these leaders “really respect him” later)
Tariffs are mainly to protect domestic producers from foreign competition with absolute advantage (and in turn protecting consumers from dumping). Even when used as intended, consequences run deep (See Bush’s Steel Tariffs). The owner of one of my favorite local stores is a Republican and we talked about it. Surprisingly he just supported a flat tax and we went back and forth. I explained that poor people would spend more of their paycheck on necessities than rich people.
