“to do things in exchange for something rather than out of true passion” the entire foundation of economic society is that I have something (a good or service) and you have something we exchange them. I don’t think merchants are merchants primarily because of passion or people buy the food they need to survive out of “true passion”.

However I agree to an extent, if we redistribute wealth in a proper way etc. Theoretically that means people can work fewer jobs or hours, or more enjoyable jobs, have more free time, do volunteer work, etc.

Retired people do part time jobs all the time, just usually not full time by choice since that sucks .
