Just a reminder that despite having control over the New Orleans Mint and having their own engraver, the Confederacy only ever minted 1,004 coins, all in 1861. How tf y’all worship traitors who couldn’t even pay soldiers with their own money 🤨🤨

Not only that a business man named Samuel Upman printed counterfeit confederate bills and sold them as mementos of the confederacy. He ended up making around 1.5 million in total notes. The counterfeit money made up around 2.5% of all confederate currency’s. He did all of this between February 1862 and August 1863. Returning to selling perfumes and other goods as the market was flooded to the point to not make a profit.

turns out there’s only 4 genuine era-accurate numismatic pieces too, the 500 seated liberties were later overstamped with the confederate reverse (i think in 1876) and the others are a similar story. the confederate cents are all fantasy pieces
