Like yeah Todd your neighbor with $7000 worth of model revolutionary war dioramas and complained to the city every week about the street light outside his window being too bright was totally normal and not on the spectrum. Also your cousin who disappeared at 6 years old and no one ever talks about anymore def wasn’t high needs and shipped to an asylum to be forgotten. That’s a figment of your imagination

Not to say I disagree with you that autism didn’t exist, but this new age notion that hobbies are always symptoms of autism kinda strikes me as weird. What do you think?

Hobbies are not considered symptoms of autism in any valid framework regarding mental disorders, whether that’s academic, legal, or medical. TikTok armchair psychologists don’t count

I absolutely agree that self-diagnosing culture has gone kinda off the rails but I also believe that there’s a massive population of older adults with undiagnosed autism because getting a diagnosis was severely shamed when they were young
