a common misconception is that colleges make people liberal. what actually happens is people become more tolerant to ideas besides their own, and tolerance for anything or anybody that isn't white, cishetero, able bodied and christian is deemed liberal by the right wing

the other thing is there's a strong correlation between intelligence and progressive ideals. the more people learn the less they tend to be conservative. conservatism is typically anti-intellectual and anti-empirical
