I don’t want an unregulated organization dictating and interpreting freedoms found in the constitution in ANY capacity.

I think fire arms should be regulated to an extent. Weapons of war do not need to be in our streets. I do believe in the second amendment and in an educated and armed populace to fight for the common defense. Congress needs to exercise more oversight over these agencies. Alcohol and tabaco being regulated by a specialized agency seems like a relic of a bygone age and shouldn’t exist like that.

Define weapons of war. This country was built on a war for freedom. The founding fathers perfectly understood the capability of powerful weapons and chose to leave that freedom to citizens. I do not want to be an easily controlled population if our government becomes tyrannical

I was thinking like military grade hardware, large caliber weapons, full automatics, etc. I fully agree- I believe an armed populace is a powerful deterrent against tyranny but i government has been sliding it in tyranny for the past few decades with increasing speed. Our government has used media and culture wars to divide us and keep us pacified. This is how they have been able to develop tyranny under our noses (generally).

I just think that the government is only going to take away things to benefit themselves generally. I should be able to defend myself and provide for myself with whatever tool is most effective.

Fair point but just because you may have good intentions doesn’t mean everyone is else will. And yes I know you can get these things through the black market but it is significantly harder than getting them through official channels

That’s exactly my point. There are people who don’t have good intentions and will do everything they can to violate laws anyway. So why should good intentioned citizens be at a disadvantage?

Because we have systems and agencies to prevent them from getting them and or using them. It’s not a perfect system but that’s why we have an armed populace. I think it’s important that we have an armed and capable populace.
