Tbh I doubt the numbers are much different from when we were kids, like pre TikTok trends. I remember begging my parents for zhu zhu pets, the iDog, pencil toppers, etc. because they were trending. The only difference is we saw the trends irl and not online

Is the implication that this is some new phenomenon? This should say 100 percent. All of you have done that.

What does that have to do with buying trending toys for your kids? My parents did it occasionally without being financially irresponsible

Or being gen z and buying yourself a silly little thing because you saw it online enough and decided you deserved a little treat? I don’t see how that’s any different from going to target or wherever and buying a candle that you don’t need just because you like the smell of it

People aren’t going into debt because they’re buying labubus, people are going into debt because the only way to buy a car and to rent a place to live is to go into debt.

This is the exact same sentiment as the millennial “maybe you could afford a house if you stopped getting coffee/avocado toast”. I’m kind of really sick of blaming people for trying to find a little joy in this train wreck of an economy we’re all trying to survive in.
