The 2028 prospects have changed. We’re not stuck with Kamala and Newsom anymore we’ve got a Talarico and an El-Sayed now

talarico isnt running for president, today he filed to run for senate again in 2032. it would be immensely irresponsible for him to run for president. el sayed would be a risk bc hes so new and honestly even though it was a 7 point win, was too close. we're good enough we can elect him to senate but id doubt it for president. newsom can fuck off and kamala idk i hope she runs and loses in the primary to someone far far more serious and progressive and actually principled

i’m republican and i genuinely hope for good democratic candidates. if there was a better candidate than kamala in 2024 there’s a chance i would have voted blue

I’m independent but there’s actually no way you’re winning with El Sayed.

I think El Sayed’s seven-point win is still impressive when you remember just how hard the right wing was going after him, and even centrist Democrats were concerned trolling about him being Muslim and not pro-Israel enough for the entire election cycle. I mean shit, his primary opponent endorsed the damn Republican and he still won by 7.

you’re likely not going to win with a more progressive candidate. you need someone more moderate

it absolutely is impressive-- for him. which is the issue. as great of a candidate that he is, as focused and intelligent as it was, it shouldve been a blowout. but because of his name and the fear and the targeted campaigns from both sides, it was closer than it shouldve been.

to be clear, im not downplaying his win or insulting him at all. im more insulting the voterbase. abdul worked hard for that and he got it. but he had to work harder and be so much better because of the forces that oppose him, which include the stupid biases a lot of americans have internalized

that said, i do think he could win the presidency. it would just be very hard and pretty close, which is why i said it would be a risk

We have tried moderates every single time since Bill Clinton and we’ve never had a better moment to swing for the fences than while the Republican Party is on the verge of total collapse.

you gotta understand that democrats didn’t win the election because they’re popular - they won because republicans are SO unpopular. Average people will not vote for an AOC or equivalent progressive

Yeah, and Democrats are unpopular because they have nothing to rally behind. There’s no energy when your campaign is “I’m gonna play nice with the opposition and hope they let me do small incremental reforms😊” Democrats need a message in 2028, and a progressive message is better than what they’ve tried in the past, which was a moderate message. It’s been a moderate message since Clinton, and that’s how Trump was able to rise, he weaponized the do-nothing nature of moderate Democrats against them

I think they have to make an economically progressive push at people who are struggling, the displaced members of the shrinking middle class are who they need to shoot for. They need to highlight that destruction of the middle class in favor of the absolute richest has been Republican policy since the 1980s. They need to actually go after the US war machine being completely unaccountable for the money we put into it. They need to campaign on putting American tax dollars back into America.

that’s what they’ve been trying to do in california and it’s made the cost of living impossible, people are still on the streets, gas is 2+ dollars more than average because of insane gas taxes. we just voted to keep higher taxes on people who make 315000+ a year. do you understand that in california that’s middle class? anything under that you’re not buying a house except in hemet
