The biggest con that the left has pulled is convincing people that a foreign, cheaper workforce won't drive down their wages.

it’s the ownership class that keeps the wages low, not the immigrant workers, why are you people always so mad at the immigrants instead of being mad at the farmers who refuse to pay a decent wage for a hand?

Just think about it very simply: assume for the hypothetical you are a CEO who has to answer to shareholders. They want you to maximize profits at all costs. Regardless of who you hire, you are going to hire them at the cheapest possible rate, illegal or legal.

Won’t drive wages down if we provide a serious, viable pathway to work authorization, raise the minimum wage, and monitor for compliance

and it’s less so that our wages have been driven down, more so that the prices of goods have increased while our wages have remained static. if only we had a workers party

As a Pennsylvanian, our minimum wage is $7.25/hr (federal). Republicans refuse to raise it. For reference, the wage has only increased about 6.5x since 1964. Meanwhile, the inherent value of our coins made before 1965 (they were 90% silver) has increased 27.7x (every dollar made of 90% silver coins is worth $27.72 today). Also the median housing price is 26x higher than it was in 1964.

But no one wants to fix the issue because they need something to run on for their campaigns
