I’m admittedly clueless about how things go in Alaska, so I gotta ask: Is it normal for a dem to do so well in both the cities and the more sparsely populated areas of the state, or is this just the Peltola effect?
like those 4 districts along the coast? She won them all with anywhere from 51-68% of the vote, which is fucking wild when there were nearly 20 candidates on the ballot 😭

Alaska is weird. The cities are like culturally Texas but cold and with a sprinkle of Russian-American culture. Rural Alaska is almost all Indigenous people.

Rural Alaska is very indigenous. Indigenous voters tend to lean Democrat, but even moreso for Peltola. Those coastal districts went to Biden too (2020 map). It’s the medium sized towns with larger white populations that tend to go republican.
