But if you talk to them about feminism then all of a sudden they’ll be the biggest champions of men’s mental health awareness.

Told my conservative family that I was starting therapy and their response was “why? That stuff doesn’t work but we will pray for you”

you ask conservatives how their mental health is, and its great! you ask conservatives if theyre happy in life and doing good, you get a completely different answer indicating... stigma around mental health!!

Look, I lean right but I have to go to therapy because I’m depressed beyond words right now. But I’m tired of the Republican Party putting people with mental health issues down. It’s why I didn’t vote for any of the shits in office.

Women are more nurturing and soothing, liberals are more compassionate, and the country is 80% white so obviously a profession is going to have similar diversity %. Saying this as a white male republican btw. Dumb tweet

liberals tend to see the world through a humanitarian lens. Would assume the lens you look at the world through is humanitarian if you are a therapist

As a conservative white man, I studied psychology undergrad and planned on getting my doctorate to be a psychologist. Once I found out how much it paid, I switched cause fuck that. Feelings won’t pay my bills.

Being frustrated with your life is not the same as having a mental health issue. There are plenty of reasons to be frustrated that have nothing to do with mental health.

Red states are statistically less happy. If you aren’t doing well at life, you have a better chance of not doing well mentally

mental health != mental illness any like, medium to long term mental suffering or anguish is bad mental health. mental illness is when it’s not (solely) related to life circumstances

I mean we are clearly operating under a different idea of “mental health”. If something bad happens to someone their happiness is going to decrease potentially for an extended period of time but that’s a normal response it’s not a “medical” issue.

It’s more complicated than that red voters tend to be happier so it’s a bit paradoxical. Now southern states tend be less happy but other “red” regions that are wealthier tend to be some of the happiest states. Like Alaska Utah or Wyoming.

You would have to redo the study and make sure to compare liberal and conservative voters happiness levels. Not everyone in Alaska, Utah, and Wyoming are conservative voters. If they polled people in big cities for example, it would be more likely that most of the respondents are liberal

I think studies do show that conservatives tend to be happier when you hold the location constant.
