immigrants CAN and SHOULD assimilate into the society that they join. that doesn’t mean cultural heritage shouldn’t be preserved or discarded by any means, it’s just to say that if you’re going to live and work and inhabit with the group you should work to be a part of them.

and i don’t think that’s absurd. if i emigrated to switzerland i’d learn german or french and take part in their customs, the same way i would learn japanese and learn their customs if i moved there.

i find it frustrating that protestors are using the very flag of the country that some of them gave up to be here as a representation of their desire to stay. you should love the country you fled yours for.
