I wonder if the reason we’ve never found sophisticated alien life is because any instances of those species have self destructed. Looking at humans, we have WMDs, the threat of climate change, and declining birth rates far before planetary travel

If humans continue down this path it’s probably not an a question of if, but when, we will go extinct. And I don’t think we have the time horizon to feasibly even leave our solar system before then

They probably see shit like Maga and think we're fucking stupid

Aliens will make contact with us when we figure out space travel, when we can explore bounds we before could not reach, there will be no stopping the things we find, not that they are preventing but rather incubating. A chicken lays an egg which a human incubates

Yeah this is just called the great filter, it’s a great theory. Is the filter that stops intelligent space faring species behind us, life itself, multicellular life, complex species, etc. Or is it in front of us, climate change, WMDs, Conflict, overpopulation.

i think it’s more to do with the sheer vastness of space, but also, i think there’s the potential for life elsewhere within the solar system

The Milky Way galaxy to me feels like it’s ours now whatever happened in the past, greater civilizations probably have picked a galaxy and colonized it rather than be spread around different galaxies unless for industry. There could be some federation or government like our NATO which they stick too what makes earth untouchable like the people of sentinel island

this anthroposupremacist thinking is why we’re currently destroying the only habitable planet we know of

the milky way is not ours, much like this planet is not ours. we inhabit the planet, the milky way, and the universe alongside the other things which live here with us. nothing is ours to conquer, and that is where our ancestors went wrong. nearly all of the woes that plague our society today trace back to european and capitalist conquest

I like that. I wouldn’t mind if humans and alien life both colonized earth, they probably just don’t need anything from the Milky Way other than monitoring.
