There’s a whole family guy episode about it that’s a weirdly well executed critique of the tea party. Think of them as proto maga. An American billionaire backed right wing pseudo libertarian (tacitly fascist) populist movement.

When John McCain selected Palin as his running mate back in 2009, she was an outsider candidate and had more aggressive stances on social issues like abortion which set her apart from George W. Bush who was more moderate on those issues and gave McCain a boost as social conservatives were skeptical about him.

It’s the opposite. She was inspired by the tea party, not inspired it.

No the tea party wasn’t in full swing until late 2009/ early 2010. Palin was selected as a running mate in September 2008
