First and foremost, let’s not get carried away thinking he’ll actually flip the seat—remember Beto? Democrats have been one election from flipping Texas for a decade now and here we are. I haven’t checked polling numbers in a week or two but last I saw Talarico was ahead by six or so points I think? His sort of economic populism is seemingly resonating with voters.

The basis for that exemption is that late night TV is apolitical. However, I think we all know that Colbert is about as political as it gets—when was the last time he even bothered to ask a Republican on the show?
