The Hong Kong protest was born out of a proposed bill that would have allowed Hong Kong citizens to be extradited to mainland China for trials, which would almost certainly be unfair and impartial. Many Hong Kongers were worried it would allow China to quash political dissent, and jail anybody who spoke out against the CCP.
It was undemocratic in a similar way to how deporting immigrants, legal or otherwise, to a country they fled is undemocratic. It flies in the face of the values this country was born on. Not disagreeing with you, it’s just a lot of people don’t entirely know what started the Hong Kong protests.
