Hi, we are actually all in danger when international humanitarian law is not being enforced to the extent that a genocide is being allowed to continue

I hate to be that guy but that’s kinda always been how it is, international humanitarian law is routinely ignored

Why would it be enforced when the victims aren’t white and America and UK makes money?

Disagree, the only international law is war and everything else is just politicians pretending to be nice

but to the extent that a genocide is allowed to take place? with the whole world watching? I get what you mean but it just sets a really dangerous precedent imo.

Yeah that’s what happened in Cambodia and Rwanda too, the international system is almost completely toothless unless the entire P5 of the UNSC miraculously agree on something

I get it, but I think it is kinda different since we have smartphones and stuff now and we are actually watching it happen instead of only getting info from mainstream media

I see where you’re coming from but having studied Cambodia for a class last semester really made me lose faith in the international system’s ability and willingness to stop genocide when it happens

Like, the Cambodian Genocide wasn’t ended by the UN or the West, it took neighboring Vietnam invading and deposing their leader to stop it

they said it's different now with modern tech like smartphones. the cambodian genocide occurred in the 70s - before smartphones or most ppl having the ability to record audio-video anywhere

Yeah, people still knew it was going on, especially people in power internationally, they simply didn’t do anything about it

Its because the humanitarian side is TOO humane, basically in order to stop a malicious country from committing evil deeds you need to PHYSICALLY stop them. You need to DESTROY them financially, economically, and bring them to ruin by FORCE. Saying “Hey this is bad stop” is never and has NEVER worked, peace is having better weaponry than the other guy

Idk I think we all agree nukes and chemical weapons have no place in modern regional wars, not sure why we should be ok with starving civilians as a weapon of war either. Or intentionally murdering medics and hiding their bodies for that matter
