100/10 please please please build it I love trains so much. I wanna be able to get to nyc from the twin cities where I live in six hours. And Chicago in like two.

Why not at national scale? Like do like we did with air travel. Make prices high for a decade to cover build costs and then lower for public use.

Im honestly a bit skeptical of completely publicly owned transport. I should clarify that I’m by no means a public transport expert, I’m just an observer of multiple different systems from public to private (I’ve lived in a bunch of different places across the U.S. cuz I was a military kid). My reason stems from a skepticism that the money and resources are used efficiently by the federal government (im assuming a high speed rail typically encompasses interstate transport, making it an issue of

Federal scope). I am absolutely a fan of the development of high speed rail, but I think there needs to be some privatization from a sort of ad-based revenue model. We already put ads on city transport but that’s public, and as the past couple of years has shown, ad revenue works as an alternative to direct payments from individuals. I’m not saying completely privatize it, I’m just saying I’m skeptical of the federal government to handle such a large project at this point in time.

also yk all of europes rail lines are connected and if you group all the countries together it’s the same size as the US more or less. So that’s two systems as big as our country where they managed it
