So I have a conversation about not wanting to have kids with my parents their thing is “wellll who’s gonna take care of you when you’re old” WELL NOBODY TAKES CARE OF MY OLD GRANDPARENTS IN ANOTHER STATE?!

Literally. My grandparents separated and my grandmother lived in a Microtel room for like 10 years. Her main “caregivers” were the staff. She’s with my aunt now, but I always felt bad about that

I don’t think it’s children’s responsibility to take care of their elderly parents but between the distrust that many people have with senior care providers, the cost of assisted living or in-home caregivers, and the stigma around multigenerational homes, no wonder why people impose that responsibility on their children, and no wonder why children aren’t interested.
