 It’s weird how you’ll just casually find racist shit just casually embedded in things that just hasn’t been changed for years, like home audio setups having a Master speaker and Slave speaker and that’s actually what they’re called

It’s sown into the fabrics of our society hard. We really haven’t moved past it at all

The tech industry moved past it after 2020. “Master” and “slave” is still common at my company because the naming is internal-only, but many companies changed “master” to “main” and “whitelist” and “blacklist” to “allowlist” and “blocklist”

For us, some of it takes a ton of work to change. Personally I think it’s a bit performative, but back in 2020 I thought it was genuinely a good thing. In some cases it made things more descriptive for non-native English speakers, but doing it because of potentially racist history seems performative
