The USA has a strong history of systemic racism, but its ethnic diversity means that people are familiar with those of other ethnicities and generally know how to behave around them. In China and other very ethnically uniform countries, they are super fuckin weird to people who look ethnically “different”
“Ethnic diversity” but we still live in a settler colonial state founded on the genocide of the indigenous population and chattel slavery of black Americans. It still is a white ethnostate and is the biggest threat to lives of the global south that are notably non-white. What’s anti racist about bombing black and brown civilians?
Ah I didn’t read that caption. I mean the easy answer is that Israel has the most systemic racism (though it’s more religiously based than “racial.) Thay is followed by the USA. In Japan and China, the average person is the weirdest about black and brown people. India probably has more everyday racism but less systemic racism than the USA.
The reality is that you only have systemic racism in countries with a significant historical ethnic minority to be racist to. Japan doesn’t have a major black ethnic group to be racist towards. They did it instead to the Ainu to near-extinction, and focus their modern racism towards Zainichi Koreans and Japanese Brazilians. It’s hard to match the granularity of Japanese xenophobia.
No obv racism isn’t exclusive to the US but again this poll chose the US out of all the options when the US by far destroys the most non-white lives globally. It’s the most racist nation bc it was literally found on racism and continues to perpetuate the most racist violence globally
Correct, we do live in a settler colonial state founded on genocide and slavery. Do you think that’s unique to America? My point is that while America has created systemic societal barriers to ethnic minorities, we have as a society worked to confront racism and acknowledge it as something wrong. China and Japan, not so much. And for that matter, I would say Israel is currently worse than the USA in terms of systemic racism.
Also I think attempting to define the externalization of capitalist exploitation and imperialist violence purely in the lens of “white” and “non-white” is kind of a dilution of the nature of the violence itself. Yes racism plays an important role, it is used to cover up the suffering of the exploited people, but resource extraction tends to be opportunistic.
Israel was founded without much U.S. involvement. British territory, and Zionism was founded mostly by European benefactors. Only really got close to the U.S. in the 60s after their diplomatic dependence on France broke down. Yes the USA helped inform the concept of settler colonialism which created Israel, but that’s pretty indirect. South Africa and Argentina I’d argue were more influential.
I’m tired of people comparing China to the USA, as if there is a comparison. China is overrated, their demographic decline is ongoing and their population estimates are greatly inflated. It smacks to me of wishful thinking. If anybody were going to be the next big empire, it would probably be India anyways.
Oh mein gott bro. You don’t have to defend every shitass government that claims to be communist. It’s not hard to say “the Kims betrayed the original values of juche by converting North Korea into a monarchy.” That’s what Hwang Jang-yop, an influential North Korean who later defected says. Like bro are you gonna defend the Khmer Rouge too? Can anyone just claim to be communist and you support them? Do you support the word communism or do you actually value humanity.
People who defend a government no matter what based solely on what ideology they claim to uphold and not on the actions of that government are extraordinarily dangerous to humanity. Thats the Americans who massacred innocent Vietnamese villagers in the name of freedom. That’s the Indonesians who slaughtered hundreds of thousands of communists in the name of order. That’s the Cambodians who operated the killing fields.
Yeah. I don’t think a lot of people in the west know about it, but it’s pretty much the same thing. I read a book about India during the Emergency (the 70s dictatorship) by an Indian author, and his descriptions of the caste system and the treatment of Chamaars (the tanner caste) really sounds like Jim Crow crossed with some of the worst torture of Slavery
I feel like it’s a bit hypocritical to discuss genocide of indigenous populations and slavery and then act as though that makes China less racist. Bcs y’know. They did that exact thing. China‘s wars are quite brutal too. Yes there’s less of them but keep on mind during their war with Vietnam killed up to 100 000 civilians… within 27 days.
I see where you’re coming from, but at the same time, is a class system based on heritage where you‘re considered to be subhuman because of your parents very fundamentally different from racism? It’s not different races the way it is in the US, but I think it still counts. I believe the UN has also condemned it as a form of racism is the thing
Oh ffs, enough of this idealist shit. Look at history thru a materialist lens! Stop using sources only funded by the US government. Be a free thinker, research!! Have you ever stopped to think why juche was created??? Hmm I wonder what happened to them and what is still happening to them 🤔🤔
I mean, Christianity also sought to be basically communist, and then devolved into dictatorships (monarchies, Roman imperialism) when it was exposed to the temptations of state power. It’s a pretty common pattern, and I think everybody would agree that medieval feudal states did not adhere to the Christian principle of “love your neighbor”.
When you use the term ‘authoritarianism’ that’s how I know you know absolutely nothing about what you’re talking about or the Cold War. And yeah the Cold War? The whole reason we think North Korea is this cartoonishly evil country? Do you know nothing about the first major “conflict” of the Cold War, the Korean war?
Also if North Korea is so cool and fine and all this is American propaganda, why doesn’t North Korea let its citizens travel abroad? China, Russia, Belarus, Laos, Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Mongolia. There’s plenty of countries not aligned with the USA. Cuba is a state heavily targeted by the USA, but their citizens are provided internet access by the government. Wouldn’t letting North Koreans communicate abroad mean the truth could be spread?
