reminder that the death penalty for this is a bad idea bc it discourages people from coming forward if their molester is gonna get killed
China openly threatening half the United States government and the U.S. president with execution is wild.

I’ve noticed republicans don’t really care about the real impacts of legislation, they just vote based on vibes. That’s why they talk about shooting pedophiles, banning birth control, banning clean needle sites…etc

im surprised others havent said this, but (as i understand it) often, when the abuser/perpetrator is to face death and is aware of that, they end up taking the life of the victim as well. suddenly molestation becomes that and murder, because it makes no difference to the lunatic doing it

That is…. a very fair point honestly

Wouldn’t… victims want their abuser to be executed? I’m not following here.

i know multiple women who have been assaulted and don’t want to press charges. it doesn’t mean they’re defending the actions that traumatized them for life, but the experience of being a victim is way more nuanced than you’re thinking

Your mixing tape with child molestation. The first has nuances the second. Most definitely dosent

Most of these abusers are family, and obviously in positions of power, so it’s leveraged as a “you don’t want blood on your hands”

Yeah but now the weight of their death lies on them. Thats not gonna be worth it for everyone

as long as the accuser is being truthful and not trying to ruin someone’s life out of spite… and if they were a child and their abuser is an adult… the blood wouldn’t be on the victims hands; it would be on the state. Would it be more effective to have a child 🍇 er in jail for the rest of their life or to simply end their life and provide counseling and support to the victim?

people frequently hold off on reporting their abusers even without the possibility of the consequences being hired like that

also there's probably a lot of future psychological consequences in setting up situations where children might have to testify in court and later grow up to learn they helped condemn that person to death

what about child on child abuse? what about family abuse? cases where the child doesnt hate the person who hurt them? hate to break it to u but everything has nuance bud

i was abused by my brother. i don't want him dead, i want him to get help.

what difference does it make to kill them vs. a life sentence? it's cheaper to keep them alive, avoids killing the wrongfully convicted, and the victim doesn't need to feel guilty. the desire for the death penalty comes from a place of wanting vengeance, not justice.

i was abused by my brother (who was also a child). i don't want him dead. shut the fuck up and stop acting like you care about victims.

I feel like child v child is different. like adults whether family or not abusing children is unacceptable in any context.

never said it was acceptable, dipshit. i'm saying that killing them doesn't fix the problem.

the point is how does the policy impact real life. #4 said nuance does not exist in child molestation. thats what i an refuting

how does removing pedophiles from the world not stop anything? It keeps them from doing again and we don’t waste tax dollars keeping them under the jail.

The whole point is that with those sorts of policies, they get reported less in the first place.

And your tax dollar point is irrelevant, it actually costs more to do an execution than it does to imprison someone for life.
