Everything has nuance. Russia wants to reclaim territory it had under the USSR. It’s wanted to invade Ukraine for decades. However, there’s a reason Putin invaded when he did and not sooner—for decades he said he would invade to stop Ukraine from invading NATO. As soon as we started saying we were bringing Ukraine into NATO, the invasion started.
When do you think the Russian invasion began? Because it wasn’t 2022. Not to mention there was never any actual effort to bring Ukraine into NATO, this in addition to the fact that NATO enlargement occurred in response to Russian aggression. The Russians themselves were the cause of NATO’s growth by attacking or threatening everyone around them.
