Scientists debunk the IQ myth: Notion of measuring one's intelligence quotient by singular, standardized test is highly misleading

IQ only measures certain skills like problem solving and logic reasoning. It does not measure your stored knowledge, information recall, emotional intelligence, etc. Not to mention that it’s still just a test and thus has all the flaws of a regular test, such as screwing over neurodivergent people. Ever wondered why so many people with a high IQ are literal monsters or have the social skills of a box of rocks? It’s because emotional intelligence isn’t something that’s measured in an IQ test.

You don’t even need a study to debunk it. Someone with an IQ of 68 wouldn’t be capable of literacy. They’d be confused by all the steps involved with showering. This claim is too ridiculous to waste time finding sources to fight it with

I agree that IQ is not a good measure of much, and should NOT be used to discriminate or promote these shitty political ideals. However, individuals with an IQ of 68 (on a standardized test such as the WAIS) are capable of literacy and life functioning. 68 is borderline or mild intellectual impairment. With proper instruction and support many people in this range can read, write, and function in society. Again! Not promoting this shit, but just a perspective from somebody who works in psych

You’re good! Just want to let people know. Ive seen educators and parents who think like this, not put effort into children that could succeed, so the more people that know the better! I work in assessment and two areas that often bring IQ down are verbal reasoning and processing speed. If someone has never been introduced to the vocabulary used on the verbal reasoning subtest because of an assumption of illiteracy, then they won’t know it, therefore perpetuating the cycle.

Processing speed can be jumbled by so many things not “strictly IQ based,” such as ADHD, sensory processing disorders, or SLDs such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. Oftentimes when students are found to have SLDs and then receive services, IQ scores improve :)
