For context I’m specifically thinking of the 11 year old girl who was forced to give birth to her father’s baby at home and was, as anyone could guess, taken out of school so the family could keep her pregnancy secret. If the homeschool lobby hadn’t made it so impossible for the government to regulate parents that poor girl might have gotten help sooner
The father should be executed. If the only time you hear about homeschooling is in connection to crime, then that’s just media based propaganda you have succumbed to. The vast majority of homeschooling is perfectly normal and I’d even argue substantively outcome based better than many public schools. You sound like you’d be racist to black people just bc the media shows a minority of them committing crime on tv
Obviously, this is an extreme case, but the fact remains that homeschooling makes it much easier for parents to abuse their kids, without anyone catching on. And that abuse can come in many forms: sexual, physical, emotional, neglect, and even miseducation. Even in cases where the kid is not being abused, they’re still being deprived of socialization with other kids, their age, and that is deeply harmful, despite the parents good intentions.
You may be right about the majority of homeschooling being positive, but you don’t actually know that because the homeschooling lobby has made studying health and education outcomes of homeschooled kids impossible. Nobody is coming to see if these kids are receiving a quality education or adjusting well or even if they’re safe. We have a system where pulling your kid out of school removes their contact with mandated reporters entirely and that’s not safe. And I didn’t need tv to feel that way tf
