Tbh I don't really have a problem with Montana bison going to private lands, the most likely outcome is that the Indian reservations take them because they already have the ability to accommodate them and iirc they actually hunt and use Bison

So what? Do you not think it’s shameful for only the tribes to be conserving and grazing bison. From what I have read, tribes will still be able to graze bison on public lands. But it’s absolutely a disgrace for the federal government to take a stance against one of the most iconic symbols of America.

I live in a major cattle grazing area, and frankly I’m furious at the Montana beef lobby that made this happen. They just toss their cows out on millions of acres of public land but get all pissy when some of that land is used for bison.

It all really depends where they're going from there, it could be somewhere that offers more protections from predators than public lands generally do (and by extension allows larger population growth) or it could be just some piece of shit appeasement lands from the cattle industry like you assume

“Oh god some of the millions of acres of prairie that the federal government provides for us will have the animals that have lived there for hundreds of thousands of years. What ever will we do if there’s a few hundred things that aren’t cows. Anyways give me millions of dollars of federal subsidies NOW”

There's a lot more that goes into managing lands that contemporaneously have your cattle and wild bison than just looking at the bison stand there
