My town was built around a city that was huge in automotive industry and I can’t go anywhere because I can’t drive. The nearest grocery store is a 90min walk away and I would either have to go in the road or the ditch because there aren’t any sidewalks

I can’t go for a walk in my own neighborhood either, because the road is uneven and covered in potholes/loose gravel, and I risk getting hit by a car because people drive fast without looking where they’re going

I’m from one of Flint’s suburban towns so you’re not far off, at least metro Detroit has DART though

But even if moving was a possibility for me, that doesn’t mean it is for everybody. Other adults might not have the money or transportation to move to a new city, or they might have a job or family they can’t leave behind. Plus, people under the age of 18 still deserve to go places without a car, especially if they have a job, and children still deserve a safe street to play on. Everybody should have easy access to basic needs like groceries and healthcare, regardless of where they live.
