Tbh I’m not entirely against the idea, like many non-American (meaning continent) don’t do birthright citizenship But it’s so clearly written that it’s obviously fascist because it’s just openly defying rule of law

I agree with doing away with birthright citizenship if either of the parents were here illegally. If the parents are here legally or are citizens then the child is born a citizen. Otherwise they are not

Yeah I know most countries do it that way I just find it absolutely insane. Someone is less of a citizen because their parents weren’t born here even if they were? That makes no sense to me. And if someone is born here why should they be deported to a country they’ve never stepped foot in?

yeah but its diff bc people from all over the place immigrate to america for all sorts of reasons its very common to be the child of an immigrant, and revoking birthright citizenship will cause millions to be stateless which is extremely dangerous and difficult to solve on a national level

I agree and Justice Jackson has already spoken on that even if we wanted to do it, removing birthright citizenship with destabilize our country.

The way I see it is that if either parent was not here legally then the child does not get citizenship period

well if you think about it logically its just not that simple. how would you go about checking parental status? stop them on their way into the hospital? delay birth registration until you verify both parents status? it would also cause stateless children and a population of permanently undocumented people, and it also goes directly against the 14th amendment of the constitution so it would be pretty difficult to change.
