According to the marshal project only 12% of mass shooters get the death penalty so can someone tell me how one man’s death means so much more than school kids dying

Does this take into account that about 60% of mass shooters either commit suicide/suicide by cop or are otherwise killed on the scene? Bc 12% of all of them probably checks out. 12% of those who actually make it to court, I feel like isn’t accurate. And that percentage I feel is more important here

Well first you have to take an account how many of the school shooters either commit suicide or die to cops, and then out of the remaining you have to exclude minors (not eligible for death penalty), and then about half of the states don’t even have the death penalty. Stats are cool and all but you gotta put them in context

From my understanding it doesn’t. It’s just 12% of all mass shooters, not 12% of those who go to trial. I think with their numbers, it’s 30% of all those who make it to trial, or 1/3 (which makes sense considering the number of minors who are convicted (can’t be sentenced to death) and those deemed mentally ill enough to not be competent for a capital trial)
