Corporations always seek the lowest-paid labor. If immigrants are easy to deport when they try to organize for better wages, their wages will be depressed, and companies will always seek to hire their labor in comparison to a worker who is protected by the law. Mass deportations are making companies more likely to hire immigrant laborers, not less.

This is the catch-22: the real way to stop immigrants from stealing your job is to protect their right to citizenship and fair wages, because then companies won’t be able to artificially depress their wages by the threat of deportation, and the employment “playing field” will become level with native workers.
