The problem with the Democratic Party is that they feel the need to constantly morality check and police others and whenever someone disagrees with them they start screaming that they are a racist, homophobic, sexist etc. pushing moderates more right

How do you feel about Republicans trying to put up the Ten Commandments in classrooms and threatening media outlets that criticize the Republican party? In a sense would you call that “policing morality?”

ya know what, (as a leftist) i actually don’t disagree, when discussing topics like racism/sexism/homophobia i try to only make statements about what was said rather than a value judgement on the individual (ie i don’t think you yourself have ill intentions but what you just said does) it’s better for conversation. you catch more flies with honey and all that

I say this as a moderate who has only been pushed more and more right as I see how democrats treat non democrats. I don’t 100% agree with any party. And if you blindly follow any party you have issues also

I don’t agree with it, but also they don’t call me racist, sexist, and homophobic just because I don’t agree with it… they respect my opinion. Crazy concept I know 🤯

Sure I care about how people treat me, if I claim to be a democrat but disagree with a certain idea and get crucified for it why would I keep being a democrat or moderate. I’m going to go to the people that treat me as an equal and not an enemy despite differing opinions

Well I’m trying to be respectful of your opinion. And might I add that I’ve also been called plenty of names by Republicans online for disagreeing with them. So have you considered they maybe just don’t call you names because you’re “on their side?”

Just because I identify as a republican doesn’t mean I agree with the current state of things. I actually hate trump and a lot of my conservative friends do as well. Y’all tend to mix MAGA with conservatives when maybe that was true in the 2016 election. They’ve became there own separate thing in my book

Good point, I think where it mainly differs is how they react when we do disagree. In my experience if I’m not 100% on board with democrats way of thinking then I’m an enemy. And if I’m not 100% with conservative we can still be friends. Like I said earlier I’m more moderate I agree with democrats on something but because I wasent 100% they treated me as an enemy. In fairness thats not everyone same as with your experience with being called names by conservatives.

I guess I’m just wondering why others saying rude things to you would influence your beliefs? I would say I align pretty far left, but I’ve certainly experienced hostility from other people who are on the left when we might not agree on something. That’s kinda just life, no? You run into people who are hotheaded or can’t accept they might be wrong about something.

They don’t necessarily influence my beliefs, rather affirm them if that makes sense. Say I voted for trump, and then I realize “oh wait this guy is actually evil” everyone I’ve seen on here and I’ve interacted with would rather dig into the fact that I voted for him than have an actual conversation about why I changed my mind. And say I voted for Biden and thing later “wait this guy isn’t fit for office” republicans don’t care that I voted for him rather just have a conversation about it.

Given are wildly different opinions I don’t think we are gonna get to an agreement or full understanding tbh, but I do appreciate you actually talking and not be hostile about it 🫡
