If you can not name multiple things you disagree with in your political party, you are a cult member. Regardless of which side you’re on.

This! Especially in our two party system. It’s insane especially since both parties are genuinely dogshit centrist BS

One party is literally destroying the foundational principles of our government and the other is trying to stop them

Not that the harm is a good thing, but you say that like the foundational principles of our government are ethically infallible… like our government isn’t built around slavery…

Foundational principles like the independence of the judiciary, the separation of powers, with the power of tariffs being held by congress, the peaceful transfer of power, freedom of the press. The admin is also sending out the national guard against citizens in peace times . The republicans are violating all of these norms, which are there for good reason to uphold democracy

I actually think both sides have the same crappy goals that are ruining our country, both of them do this at their core. Both are basically money first, and while there are good people in the Democratic Party, and it’s growing, it’s also very slow growing and it’s becoming fought at every single turn. Essentially the majority of our government is beyond trash, and there are like maybe 10 big boy politicians that aren’t beyond saving.

Agree the GOP is gutting checks and balances, and that's genuinely dangerous. But "defend the norms" can't be the endpoint. Those same institutions upheld slavery, Native removal, and Jim Crow without breaking a sweat. Stopping authoritarianism is the floor, not the goal. If we just restore the pre-2016 status quo, we're preserving the machine that produced this moment. Fight the fascism now, sure, but toward something better than the colonial state we started with.

I agree, but it’s the point we are out right now. Republicans are harming not only Americans, but the American system of government. Voting for democrats represents the easiest way to but a road block to stop them. I also believe that we should hold democrats accountable, and change the system if we can. But right now, the most impactful thing that can be done to stop the harm of the Trump admin is a democrat controlled house and senate

Just compare the Biden and Trump admins, Biden supported unions, passed major legislation for infrastructure, green energy, supporting families, and enhancing Medicare. He normalized our relationships around the world. He kept the independence of the judiciary and supported our institutions of science and education. Trump did the opposite.

Fully agree: stopping Trump is the urgent harm reduction right now. But once the bleeding stops, we need something ready to replace the machinery, not just restore it. Indigenous philosophy has a lot to offer there, and that means looking past the American left/right binary to the colonial structure underneath both. Democratic leaders aren't innocent here either; their party's founder Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act.
