I listen to a handful of debate podcasts and call lines on Twitch and YouTube, generally all center or left-wing hosts. When conservatives call in, there’s only a few who will actually listen and have a regular back & forth conversation about it. Others just want to “own the libs,” yell slurs, or just repeat how the host is wrong but says they have no evidence for their claim bc they “don’t have it in front of them” or “don’t know it off the top of their head.”
Well, I’d say it’s the same thing for right wingers. The most uninformed and thick-headed are usually also the most vocal. Just another reason to let these dialogues take place off anonymous apps where people can distance themselves from reason with dissociation. There’s not as many conservatives like that as we think, we’re just being flooded by bots and loud assholes who misrepresent the majority.
I definitely think most conservatives aren’t like the folks on Twitter these days. Like, the pro-mechahitler ones, but the rhetoric of the admin itself is pretty bad rn and idk. I live in a liberal area, but many of my conservative coworkers are pretty vocally hateful. Some worse than others ofc I imagine there’s more moderate GOPers in conservative areas bc “not political” types tend to just vote with the local majority when they vote at all
I have only seen a few clips, but those MAGA parents that talk to their son & daughter on a podcast is so interesting. It’s heartbreaking at times, and other times it’s frustrating bc it’s their expressed thoughts that entirely lack critical thinking and logic. When they’re confronted with that, they lash out and complain about it or they call it all lies…
They’re so angry they don’t even know why they’re angry. Any attempt to communicate a different reality than the one they’ve created for themselves is met by actual adult temper tantrums. As sad as it is I don’t think this can be unlearned, they’re just living in a different reality. Propaganda works. Really, really fucking well.
